El Cielo de Cáñar is translated as "the sky of Cáñar" and is aptly located just above Cáñar, the first white village you'll see if you drive into the Alpujarra valley from the coast. Cáñar is the first of the High Alpujarra villages encountered leaving the Orgiva valley heading up toward Bubion and Trevelez. Cáñar is fully equipped with two bars, a shop and a pharmacy and is situated just below us, less than a kilometre away as the crow flies (or the mule walks) but the twisting nature of the road means it is about 20 minutes walk. The Alhambra is in Granada City and is about 1 hours drive. The nearest airports are Granada (1 hours drive), Malaga (1 hours 45 mins drive) or Almeria (2hrs 15 mins drive).

There is a huge choice of activities available on our doorstep in the Alpujarras including walking, Mountain Biking, Climbing, Horse Riding, Yoga, guided tours, or if you prefer, just get out and explore the area yourself. There is an abundance of wildlife to see and depending on the time of the year you can watch eagles soaring or wild boar rooting. Because of the altitude of Cáñar there is very little light pollution and for those interested in stargazing there is an amazing show each night when the sun goes down.

The Alpujarra is a popular walking destination and is host to a section of the GR-7 path which runs from Algeciras in southern Andalucia across Europe to Athens. We have copies of walking guides and maps at your disposal. The main ski resort of the Sierra Nevada, Pradollano-Solynieve, is approximately 1 hours drive away. The ski season usually starts in December and lasts until April, sometimes later.

However you choose to spend your time we can provide you with all the necessary contacts and information to do as much or as little as you like during your stay here.
